Inesa Markava

Inesa Markava, of Portuguese nationality, PhD in Contemporary Art by College of Arts of the University of Coimbra with a thesis Territory Between: Dance within exhibition space, developed her career in the area of ​​community projects and as a museum dancer in Portugal, Spain and other European countries.

The beginning of 2021 was marked by the creation of a global Imaginary Museum project that included 3 museums (Paper Mill, Leiria Museum and Museum of Moving Image) and a Municipal Gallery (Banco das Artes) in a logic of artistic-cultural mediation of contents and heritage through the language of contemporary dance.

In January 2022 started collaboration with visual artist Ana Luisa Cunha within artistic residency at Watermill of Paper Museum in order to create the exhibition/installation Interlude. Between Transparences with opening in March 2022. In April of 2022 worked with Jean Dubuffet’s Ardent Celebration exhibition  at Guggenheim Bilbao developing workshop and performative visits.

During 2021 to May 2022 worked as artistic director of opening performances in 13 Museums of Leiria region at the Museum at the Village  project that was rewarded by the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards 2022.

In March 26th 2023 inaugurated the exhibition Ophelia. Prelúdio das Águas by Ana Luísa Braga Cunha, where our performance led visitors to discover the poetics of this site specific project about water and women in literature and the arts.

In the beginning of April, 2023 Atividário – Dança exhibition was the motto for a new dance visit, this time at the Convento São Francisco in Coimbra, where we developed workshops and activities within the framework of the April Dance in Coimbra Festival.

In late April 2023 worked with Joan Miró Absolute Reality. Paris 1920-1945  exhibition  at Guggenheim Bilbao Museum developing performative action visits.

With the beginning of the summer 2023 we were finishing our artistic residency at the Paper Mill within the premier of the new performance Rose of Winds with the precious collaboration of Ana Luísa Cunha as an art director and costume designer. Rose of Winds is about the movement of the air that inspires changes, that brings rain and the new season. The space of the performance  was a marvelous rehabilitation of the old Paper Mill in Leiria signed by one of the most important portuguese architects Alvaro Siza Vieira.

In the middle of October 2023 within the artistic residency at Philharmonie of Luxembourg we created “Uirapuru” concert together with Stephany Ortega, voice; Marwane Champ, violoncello; Laurent Warnier, percussions; Paulo Lameiro, concept and Alexandra Lichtenberger, costumes.

In november 2023 took part in The IETM Focus Luxembourg 2023 meeting that addressed the topic of the climate crisis and Festival for the youth audiencies ElPetit in Barcelona.

In january 2024 worked as Invited University Professor  for the intensive program “Artistic Mediation in Dance” as a part of Master in Choreographic Composition and Professional Practices at Higher School of Dance, Lisbon.

In march 2024 started a creative collaboration with Musicalmente in order to prepare new dance visits and discover through music and dance MU.SA – Museum of Arts in Sintra.
