Teaching dance as a form of communication
“Inesa has been part of the Clara Leão Dance School since her arrival to Portugal/Leiria in 2005. During the academic years 2018/2019 and 2019/2020, and 2020/2021, Dance Visits were provided to Creative dance classes at the Clara Leão Dance School (EDCL). The project, resulting from a protocol between EDCL, Arquivo Gallery and dancer/researcher, stemmed from an interesting approach to mediation, for children in pre-school age, of exhibitions of the most diverse artistic manifestations.
The extremely creative, quiet, carefully thought-out way to be able to hold the attention of young children, and always with great aesthetic care, managed to all sessions arouse great interest, and consequent attention, in EDCL students. The path to individual discovery of the art on display has always been a careful approach by Inesa Markava, who through dance brings children closer to the universe on display, without lead them to any interpretation. The movement, some objects, and the invitation to observation first and then participation are the key elements of this approach to fruition.
Each Danced Visit session was completed with another one in the studio, in the week following, designed to revisit what happened in order to promote a thought already distanced about the ideas and sensations born of the Visit, promoting reflection, question and answer, and the creation of something new in the sequence.
This approach to the work of art, which opens wide paths and generates understandings autonomous, provides an experience of fruition that will certainly leave roots and will bear fruit.”
